What would you say is the strategy and mission behind the WWT Asynchrony Labs’ NY office?
WWT Asynchrony Labs specializes in application development, mobile computing, systems and sensor integration, enterprise architecture, and tactical collaboration. Our mission in New York City is to utilize our expertise in those areas to deliver quality and maintainable products to customers in the east coast region through ongoing client collaboration, iterative development, and continuous testing.
Do your responsibilities lie in a particular region? Technology focus? Other?
No. Along with our mission as stated above, and in recognition of our existing client base, we plan to continue to have an assortment of technology expertise and focuses.
You currently have seven employees in the office – what is the makeup of your staff? Sales? Developers?
We currently have three software engineers, one quality advocate, one delivery engineer, one sales engineer, and one business development / salesperson.
You opened the new office a few months back. What can you share with us about how business has been since the launch? Any exciting new projects that you’re working on that you can tell us about?
Business has been good and we’re looking forward to growing the office even more as we obtain more clients. Being in New York, we’ve received a lot of interest from the financial sector. Most recently, we’ve been working with a client on an infrastructure-as-a-service project (IAAS), making use of public cloud services.
WWT and WWT Asynchrony Labs are co-located in this NYC office. Talk a little bit about how WWT Asynchrony Labs align closely with the capabilities and offerings that WWT provides for customers.
Being a part of WWT has been great, and it gives WWT Asynchrony Labs the ability to provide complementary solutions in all areas of technology. We have seamless communications, collaboration and coordination across our other locations including St. Louis, Denver, London, and Hong Kong — just to a name a few.
What would you say are the advantages of being located right in the heart of downtown Manhattan?
The biggest advantage is being co-located with World Wide Technology (WWT). It enables us to facilitate communication between the account managers of existing WWT clients in order to expand those relationships and see where WWT Asynchrony Labs could also be of help. In addition, many of our partners – such as Cisco – are located in close proximity. The ease of transport for employees and clients for face-to-face meetings is a great feature of being in midtown Manhattan. And finally, the candidate pool for engineers and other positions is very large and full of talent.
How would you describe the New York tech region also known as Silicon Alley? What would you say the future holds for the area?
New York is obviously a very large city with many opportunities. It’s the tech hub of the east coast. It has a very diverse mix of businesses in regards to size and sector. As the number of startups continues to increase, it seems likely that New York will continue to see growth in more sectors such as media and finance. It’s also probable that the number of international companies will continue to open offices in the New York area.
What would you say is unique about working in NYC?
New York is a high-paced environment with constant exposure to high-level and high-achieving individuals within the technology space and beyond. NYC also has a very diverse set of individuals from different backgrounds and interacting with them helps us to grow in many ways.
What advice would you give for any company considering opening a tech office in NYC?
NYC is a challenging location. I would tell the company to be prepared to compete for employees and potential clients. Also, location is very important when considering transportation to and from the office.
